 - The Digital flipside of Paper

There are lots of devices in the market for making ease in the work. Many of them use computers, and some of them use mobiles and very few use tablets, especially students who use mobiles and tablets. Tablets are in use when there is difficulty in viewing mobiles for long hours. The tablets made by Apple are termed as iPads.

According to us, it’s a revolutionary tool for, especially students. Let's have an eye on its upsides and downsides for the students.

UPSIDES

  • Has a large screen minimum of 8inch in iPad mini and 10.2 inches in the budget iPad. Though affordable android tablets are available with similar dimensions they usually lack Screen resolution and screen refresh rate that leads to eye strain to a much extent
  • Keeping all textbooks, handwritten notes in a single thin piece of an electronic gadget. The argument can get enhanced by saying that the same could be done with the android tablet but annotation of PDFs and note-taking that to handwritten notes are an impossible task on android tablets. The most exciting feature for note-taking on an iPad is its PALM REJECTION TECHNOLOGY.

PALM REJECTION TECHNOLOGY.

This feature has made the iPad to be a flipside for paper. So basically what is Palm Rejection technology, as the term literally means – There is a rejection of your palm touch sensing when it touches the screen when you have an Apple pencil connected with the iPad. You can rest your palm on the screen while taking handwritten notes that are really comfortable

  • Space is a limitation on paper whereas on iPad you can add any amount of additional information to your notes
  • Can directly download images, diagrams and paste them into your digital notes. Especially as for Health science students Radiological, Histopathological images and clinical procedure videos can be saved on the digital notes which essentially helps in their retention capacities
  • Can draw diagrams, make algorithms, highlight notes etc
  • Educators can use it for an exciting and interactive means of teaching as it can be directly connected to the projectors.
  • Split-screen mode can help in viewing the video along with note-taking
  • The convenience of carrying a single device rather than big fat books makes one perceive comfort
  • Eco friendly – We Know that paper is made of leaves for which large trees are cut down and deforestation results. The eBooks and digital handwritten notes definitely decrease paper usage.

The iPad is made from recycled material as much as possible in order to the initiative took by apple to decrease electronic and carbon waste to make the world a healthier place to live.
Overall excellent aesthetics of an iPad makes it using excitement.

    DOWNSIDES

    COST –

The most saddening downside because when we look at its features internal emotions arise that “I need this device” but when we look the price makes one feel down. Though there is a basic iPad popularly known as Budget iPad when compared with its android competitors with similar specs make it budget foe. Not only the iPad but also its accessories like Apple Pencil, Magic keyboard, Storage devices are also costly

Apple has introduced offers for students and teaching faculties under the name “Apple Education Discount” where students and teachers can avail some discounts.

    DURABILITY

Definitely less durable than a paper, glass screen has to be handled with care.

    STORAGE OPTIONS

The budget iPad has limited storage capacity which even cannot be expanded because Apple doesn’t prefer to keep a memory card slot in it. This disadvantage can overcome by using iPad Pro but they are too high in cost.

Though Affordability is the biggest con it definitely cannot outweigh the features for the students. Besides being a comfortable and useful tool for study purposes it's also an environment-friendly device which is why it is a flipside to paper.
